STEM students Justin Jones and Riley Girard used some spare materials to create a mobile cart with a sneeze shield for Mr. Hawig's biology class. We are so lucky to have such innovative students at CHS who are trying to slow down this Pandemic that has hit our country. Keep up the great work!

Today, CHS students participated in Round 2 of the CyberPatriot Competition. CHS had 2 JROTC teams and 1 civilian team. The program is a partnership between the US Air Force and the JROTC program to spark interest in cybersecurity at an early age. This is the 4th year of participation for Carrollton High School.
Mr. Hawig and Coach Keith shared how Punnett Squares are about the probability of genetic inheritance to Mr. Hawig's Science class. Gregor Mendel, aka Mr. Hawig, visited the class for observational questioning on his discoveries and why he is known as the Father of Genetics.
Mrs. Grubbs’ Honors World Literature class went on a virtual field trip to Washington D.C. and Europe today. These students have been reading Night by Elie Wiesel which is about his experience in the Holocaust in 1944-1945. The students explored the Holocaust museum, destroyed synagogues, the Auschwitz concentration camp, a Warsaw ghetto, barracks, and a crematorium in this interactive virtual reality field trip with Google Expeditions. What a neat experience for these students today! The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. We believe that every student should learn basic principles of computer science because it builds problem-solving skills, logical thinking and reasoning skills, and creativity. Stay tuned to see photos of students participating in Hour of Code this week!
Students in Mrs. Rogers Anatomy and Physiology class are modeling the brains they made in class on Friday! What a fun, hands-on activity for her students!
Today the CHS CyberPatriot team competed along with hundreds of schools across the country. The CyberPatriot Program is a partnership between the Air Force and JROTC to teach student service members and civilian students about Cyber Security. Our teams will advance to Round 2 in December. Students in Mrs. Sewell’s AP Environmental Science class collected soil samples from around campus to determine the type of soil texture found. After completion of the lab, students used a soil triangle to determine the texture of most of our soil to be sand, sandy loam or clay loam. Students are currently learning about physical, chemical and biological properties of soil. What a neat learning activity for these students! CHS Science teacher, Mr. Hawig, took a group of group of freshmen out to the creek last week. Some special discoveries were found on the tributary as students were attempting to identify animal/plant cell information. A surprising erosion event was discovered and students participated in laser sighting practice. This awesome tool used in various industries was purchased from a grant from C.S. Britton.
It's Homecoming Week at CHS!!! Check out these Snap Codes, created by Mr. Blakemore's Computer Science class, for our "Mathletes vs. Athletes" dress-up day! Each Homecoming day will have new Snap Codes created by Mr. Blakemore's students.
