Student Mentorship
- STEM K12 14: Students develop STEM skills and cross-cutting competencies that support workforce readiness.
|
Carrollton High School has two co-curricular STEM Teams: TSA VEX Robotics and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV). We have approximately 40-50 students participating in these competitive teams. We also compete in the Moody’s Mega Math Challenge, Regional and State Technology Fair, Regional and State Science Fair, and the Academic Bowl.
We continue to pursue other partnerships that will allow our students to participate in meaningful internship opportunities. At Carrollton, we also provide meaningful and relevant real-world opportunities through our internship opportunities such as our Computer Science/IT interns, our jumbotron crew, the NFHS play-on sports crew, Engineering interns, and Graphics Communications interns. We are continuously expanding opportunities at CHS as new ideas and needs arise. |

CHS Apprenticeship and Mentorship Opportunities:
- Southwire Engineering Academy (sponsored by Kasey Austin, CHS Engineering Teacher) - SWEA is an internship opportunity for junior and senior completers of the Engineering Pathway. Interns work every other day with the Engineering Department at Southwire, a local wire and cable manufacturer, to solve real-world problems for the company.
- Computer Science/IT Internships (sponsored by Robby Blakemore, CHS Computer Science Teacher) - The CS Interns are groups of students that assist faculty and staff with implementing technology in their classroom or into their lessons. The students are selected for jobs based on their individual skills and then paired with another student with other skills to maximize the group's effectiveness. Ultimately, the goal is for all students to be trained and included in the network of trainers that are used to make tutorials, assist teachers and even participate in live Google Hangout teaching sessions.. To view their internship assignments for this semester, click on their Work Log.
- Graphic Design Interns (sponsored by Mike Lewis, CHS Graphics Teacher) - Graphic Design Interns help manage live work that the CHS Graphic Communications Department produces for the school and community. Interns are pathway completers that desire more experience in the Graphic Communications field. Examples of live work created by CHS graphic design interns can be found in this spreadsheet.
