The CHS Stream Initiative
The purpose of the CHS Stream Initiative is to create a science career pathway that encompasses hydrology, geology, agriculture, horticulture, forestry, and ecology. The primary focus will be to expose students to potential opportunities upon graduation. Exposure will begin in elementary school (K-5) and extend into specialized science courses at the middle school and junior high level before beginning the 3 course pathway at Carrollton High School. Students explore the natural area around the campus’s streams observing flora and fauna as well as changes in many facets of how the stream functions. They catch and ID fish and marine invertebrates noting changes in populations over time. They also collect items of pollution and categorize what is being left in our waterway. Several guest speakers have also presented on natural items that are present within the stream.
