Carrollton science teachers attended GSTA (Georgia Science Teachers Association) learning new tricks and updated biochemistry to share with peers and students. They also presented two workshops, one sharing the stream project (Ann Cox and Tim Hawig) and another innovative lesson design done in cooperation with UWG Ed department (Brent Gilles with Tim Hawig and Kim Scasny). Imagine Andina Inca music from Ecuador in the background as Mrs. Grubbs and Ms. Daniel's Honors World Literature classes went on a virtual field trip to Ecuador and South America today. These students have just finished reading The Queen of Water by Laura Resau and Maria Virigina Farinango which took place in Ecuador. They enjoyed looking at places that they read about in this interactive virtual reality field trip with Google Expeditions.

Students learned about various methods used to train and care for the animals. Agriculture is the number one industry in the state of Georgia. The farm gate value in Carroll County alone is over $220 million dollars. The Ag related jobs are then there are qualified employees. Because of this and the importance of agriculture to our community, the UGA Extension office hosted the 4th annual Ag Career Expo on January 30 for area high school students. The event was held at the Ag Center in Carrollton. Students had an opportunity to visit with local Ag related businesses, organizations and colleges to learn more about the career opportunities for their future.
Mr Hawig’s freshman Biology students and several CHS IB student volunteers were a huge help with the 3rd Annual 2020 Science Bowl! They were instrumental in making this event a success! Ten teams of students from the Atlanta region came to compete and enjoy an oratory performance of ancient Astronomy thanks to Ben Jenkins. A big thank-you also goes out to Chick-fil-A and American Pie for their donations! |
