CHS teachers Robby Blakemore, Kristie Bradford-Hunt, and Tim Hawig enjoyed a two day STEM conference where they learned innovative ways to incorporate STEM into their classrooms.
Students in Mrs. Bradford-Hunt’s Chemistry Class created their own periodic table after being given examples of element cards with masses and different chemical and physical properties. Once they organized their periodic table they had to explain their organization to the class and also explain it in written form.
Honors Biology students in Mrs. Sewell’s Class are currently learning about passive transport and were able to see osmosis in action by using a gummy bear to represent the semi-permeable membrane of a cell. The students calculated the percent change in mass from day one to day two and had to use their skills to determine the solution type being represented as well as determine and explain why it is important the cells within our body are in isotonic solutions.
