Check out Mrs. Dill's Culinary I students looking snazzy in their chef’s coats and holding their ServSafe Food Handler certificates! Her class had a 100% pass rate on the ServSafe exam! Keep up the great work!
Two CHS students, Eli McGuire and Haley Fincher, both freshmen, competed as a team called The Whisk Takers, in the Georgia Department of Education's first ever virtual Student Chef Competition. There were 3 rounds of competition: first was a series of activities that culminated in creating a recipe that meets federal school lunch standards and preparing that recipe for a group to taste test. The second round, if the initial score was high enough, required a video submission detailing the dish and what it took to create it. In the third round, DOE chefs prepared the meal and conducted their own taste test. After the 3 rounds of competition, Eli and Haley placed 2nd in the state for their recipe, Honey Garlic Chicken Stir Fry. In addition to their recipe being featured in school lunchrooms around the state, they are each eligible to receive an $8.000 scholarship to Sullivan University in Louisville, KY. Congratulations to Eli and Haley!
Two CHS students, Gracie Whipple and Rey Rodriguez, were named as finalists in the Georgia Technology Student Association state competition. Gracie competed in photographic technology and Rey competed in video game design. Both students received 12th place in the state out of hundreds of students. Congratulations Gracie and Rey!
Carrollton High School students, Jacob Hubbard and Cole Owens both received bronze medals from SkillsUSA Georgia. Jacob competed in the masonry category laying a brick structure and Cole competed in the carpentry category building a wooden structure. Both students also took online tests and had to go through a list of employability skills as a part of their competition. Carrollton High School would like to thank RA-LIN for their continued support of our school and students. Pictured is Jacob Hubbard, Cole Owens, instructor Chris Stone, Greg Garrett, and the 2020-2021 RA-LIN work based learning students.
Anatomy students in Mrs. Roger's class are showing off their brains! They worked on a lab in class where they dissected animal brains. This was a great hands-on lesson for our students!
Students in Mrs. Rogers' Anatomy classes dissected chicken wings yesterday in class. They were able to observe the function of the muscles, as well as, connective tissue and cartilage. What a fun activity!
The chemistry classes at CHS are celebrating half mole day this week! Students express their creativity with mole jokes, stuffed moles, posters and more! This is always a fun activity for our students and they really enjoy this assignment in their chemistry class.
Mr. Dudley and Mr. Hawig's Ecology and Biology classes tested a carbohydrate (marshmallow) vs. different lipids (fats) to determine which has more calories (observed as heat/length of burn). The variety of nuts tested burned three to six times longer, which emphasized the function of lipids as an energy storage macromolecule. What a fun lesson!
Recently the STEM students at CHS engraved 45 clipboards for Carrollton Elementary School. They created the file and sent it to CUES so that they could help by engraving 15 clipboards. This was a great example of three of the four schools in the CCS collaborated. Here at CHS, we collaborated with Mr. Maples and his class to make a video to describe to the CES and CUE students how we made the engravings. |
